March 27, 2014: Before April 8, Hindus will begin preparing for Rama Navami, the celebration of the birth of Lord Rama, the incarnation of Vishnu, preserver and protector of the universe. The festival is intended for moral reflection and as a reminder to the congregation to be charitable to others.
On the date of the ceremony, the Hindu home is cleaned and then decorated with offerings of fruit and flowers at the family’s shrine.
