Hindu Holi festivities to held be on March 23 in Snellville
A Hindu religious festival celebrating the beginning of spring will be held March 23 at Lenora Park in Snellville.
The Holi Celebration, SeematiePersaud said, is known as the festival of colors and falls on the day of the full moon according to the Hindu calender, typically in February or March.
The event is sponsored by Radha Krishna Mandir and Youth Cultural Group.
Persaud, one of the event organizers, said the public is invited to attend.
During the celebration, which will be held from 1 to 5 p.m., individuals will rub abrak, or colored powder, on each other and soak one another with water and abeer, or colored water.
#“Lots of food and delicacies are prepared and is shared among families and friends,” Persaud said. “The festival has originated in India and has various significance associated with it, one of it being ‘good over evil.’ In Guyana and Trinidad, it is a time when people come together as one to celebrate, putting aside their differences. The feeling and spirit of togetherness spread throughout the country as it is a National Holiday.”
The event will include vegetarian foods and non-alcoholic beverages. No alcohol is allowed in the park, which is located at 4515 Lenora Church Road.
