Almanac of Meenakshi temple festivals released
Tamilnadu March 07, 2014: For the benefit of devotees and visitors who need to know about important days and dates when various festivals are celebrated in Meenakshi Sundareswarar Temple, the authorities have come up with an almanac in Tamil.
The 100-page book not only contains details of various festivals being celebrated in the temple, but also offers information about the day-to-day functioning of the temple. “We have published details of the temple opening and closing times for each day and the different ‘pujas’ and festivities arranged. It will help devotees who want to visit the temple witness the special events,” said P. Jayaraman, Joint Commissioner of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments Department and the Executive Officer of the temple.
The book also has details the auspicious days throughout the year, the rituals to be observed and the ‘Utsavams’ the temple hosts. To help devotees who wish to perform ‘abhishekams’ or ‘pujas’ in the temple, descriptions of pujas performed to the temple deities along with the timings and the procedure to be followed have been explained. The book, priced at Rs.50, has colour photographs of the various temple deities.
Last year, the temple authorities had released an interactive DVD in Hindi, Tamil and English to help the devotees and visitors know about the temple and its history. The English DVD was well received and was in demand among foreign tourists, temple officials said.
