Washington February 07, 2014: The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is a world-wide movement dedicated to the philosophy and practice of Bhakti Yoga. It is managed by a Governing Body Commission (GBC) that ensures the standards and guidelines of the organization are followed. ISKCON – The Hare Krishna Temple has over 400 temples and centers throughout the world.
ISKCON of Washington DC, started in 1975. Srila Prabhupada is the founder and visited the temple in 1976. The main building, a stunningly beautiful temple, is home to a very special Deity of Krishna. It is ISKCON’s first Krishna Deity in America. The Deity is called Madan Mohan, and is the center of the community. The temple is in the midst of 12 acres of fine-looking forested land. Along with the temple, there is a Cultural Hall and residential and guest facilities.
ISKCON makes it a point to act in synchronization with mother nature. A very serene environment prevails with flowers and vegetables being grown and cows being taken care. ISKCON is against slaughtering of millions of animals for food.
ISCKON is open daily 4:30 am to 9:00 pm. Every Sunday there is a special Open House from noon to 3pm. Visitors are welcome all year round.
